Motorcyclist dead after crash on Indian Head Highway in Fort Washington
FORT WASHINGTON, Md. - A motorcyclist is dead after an early morning accident on Route 210 in Prince George's County.
The accident happened around 12:30 a.m. on northbound Indian Head Highway near Palmer Road in Fort Washington.
Police say the motorcyclist was traveling northbound when they struck the read of a vehicle in front of them. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Northbound Indian Head Highway at the intersection of Palmer Road was closed for several hours. The roadway reopened around 6 a.m. Several lanes of southbound Indian Head Highway near Kirby Road were also closed during the accident cleanup.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Route 210 is known for a high number of major accidents. Less than two weeks ago, two men died in an early morning crash after a head-on crash on Indian Head Highway. Prince George's County police say one of the men was driving the wrong way on Route 210 when his vehicle slammed into another vehicle, killing both drivers.
In March, a fiery crash on Indian Head Highway in Oxon Hill left several hospitalized.
