Millions expected to travel during Thanksgiving holiday rush
WASHINGTON - Leave early and pack your patience! That's the advice for the millions who are traveling ahead of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
If you are loading up the car, catching a plane or getting to your location by other means you are among the over 50 million Americans expected to travel to their holiday destinations.
Over 48 million will be driving to their Thanksgiving destinations, AAA Mid-Atlantic says. Over four million will fly and over one million will travel by other modes of transportation like bus and train.
The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is traditionally the busiest day to fly. FOX 5's Bob Barnard visited Reagan National Airport in Arlington where passengers moved briskly thought lines during the morning hours. Airport officials expect the number of travelers to increase as the day continues.
Traffic and congestion on highways around the D.C. region, especially during the height of rush hour, is expect to add to Wednesday's drive times.
