Metro to stay open until 2 a.m. on New Year's Eve

For those planning on ringing in the new year, Metro says trains will be running until 2 a.m. on New Year's Eve.

"We are pleased to provide special late-night service to give those celebrating New Year's Eve a safe way home," said Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld.

Metro normally closes at 11:30 p.m. on weekdays, but will be extending rail service an extra two-and-a-half hours for riders. The transit agency will be charging off-peak fares and there will be no track work planned that night, officials say.

Metro will reopen at 8 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. on New Year's Day. Trains will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule.
