Metro investigating after report of train running red signal

ARLINGTON, Va. - Metro is investigating to see, if for the second time in eight days, a train overran a red signal while on the tracks.

The latest incident happened at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport station shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

FOX 5 transportation contributor, Martin Di Caro, says that a Yellow Line train involved was pulling into the station at a low rate of speed when computers indicated that it had stopped beyond a signal at the end of the platform.

Di Caro says no other trains were ahead of it on the tracks and no injuries or damage was caused.

The operator of the train has been removed from service while the investigation is taking place.

Earlier this month, a train operator was fired after he ran through a red signal and almost caused a collision with an oncoming train carrying passengers along the Red Line.

Regarding the incident, Metro said in a statement:

"Metro is investigating a possible red signal overrun at National Airport Station that occurred shortly before 9 a.m. today. The Yellow Line train involved was pulling into the station at a low rate of speed when ROCC computers indicated that the train had stopped beyond a signal at the end of the platform. There were no injuries, no damage and no other trains on the track ahead. The train operator has been removed from service, as is standard, and an investigation is underway. The train was moved about a half hour later."
