Mega Millions, Powerball combines for a staggering $2.2 billion
WASHINGTON - Although anyone who plays the lottery players would face long odds in either the Powerball or the Mega Millions, they could, in theory, finish the week with $2.2 billion.
After no one drew a winning ticket on Friday night, the Mega Millions jackpot swelled to a record $1.6 billion.
Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot has also expanded - with the most recent tally at $620 million, the fifth largest jackpot in U.S. history.
Tuesday night, people across the country will be checking their tickets to see if they'll be able to claim a share of the Mega Millions drawing, but on Wednesday, many of those same people will be scanning their Powerball tickets as well.
