Md. man accused of dragging officer with car arrested

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County police say they've arrested a man who dragged an officer with his car, causing the officer to break his leg.

Twenty-six-year-old Danny Harvell of Temple Hills is charged with attempted second-degree murder and other offenses. Police announced his arrest on Thursday. He was taken into custody earlier this week and is being held without bond. Court records do not list an attorney for him.

Police say an officer tried to question Harvell on July 15 in District Heights and that Harvell did not cooperate. Police say the officer reached into the car and Harvell drove off, and the officer's arm got tangled in the seat belt. The officer was dragged about 100 yards before the car hit a tree.

The officer underwent surgery for a broken leg.
