Maryland teen leukemia survivor inspiration of 'Just TRyan It' kids' cancer triathlon fundraiser

WASHINGTON - Maryland teen Ryan Darby is focusing on making a difference in the lives of kids with cancer. As a Leukemia survivor, the 14-year-old from Montgomery County is a leading force behind the "Just TRyan It" triathlon event for kids to raise money for childhood cancer patients and their families.

After being diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in December 2009, Ryan fiercely battled for three and a half years and has now celebrated his fifth year being cancer-free. Ryan and his family started Just Tryan It tri- athlons for kids in our area affected by cancer.

Along with his mom Mollie, as well as the rest of his family and friends, Ryan and Just TRyan It has donated over $1.5 million to help with families with expenses like housing costs and utilities, food, gas and clothing while taking care of a young loved one with cancer.

"We empower healthy kids to help sick kids by seeking out pledges and raising awareness of the many struggles facing families with sick children," says the organization.

The next Just TRyan It will be on June 17 in Ryan's hometown of Bethesda at the Landon School at 6101 Wilson Rd.
