Maryland State Police trooper injured in I-95 accident

ELKRIDGE, Md. - A Maryland State Police trooper was hurt after his patrol car was hit from behind by a passing driver Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Trooper Tristen Phillip, 27, was inside his marked car on the right shoulder of southbound Interstate 95, north of Route 100, assisting a disabled motorist. Police said a driver then veered off the road and struck the patrol car, which had its emergency lights activated. The impact of the crash caused the patrol car to hit the disabled vehicle.

The 31-year-old driver who struck the trooper's car was driving without a license, police said. He was transported to the hospital. Charges are pending.

Trooper Phillip was taken by ambulance to the hospital. There is no word on his condition at this time.

The occupants of the disabled vehicle refused medical treatment.
