Man with knife fatally shot by Md. police

Howard County police fatally shot a man who confronted them with a knife.

Police got a call around 10:40 a.m. from a home in the 6400 block of Cardinal Lane in Columbia. The caller said a man with a knife was inside and threatened to kill him.

Officers arrived at the scene and were confronted by the armed man. He refused orders to drop the knife, so an officer shot him.

Police entered the home and found no one inside.

The officer is an 8-year veteran of the police department and will be placed on leave pending the results of the investigation.

The armed man has not been identified yet.
