Montgomery County police say an adult male pedestrian has been fatally struck by a train in Gaithersburg.

According to Pete Piringer of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, the man was struck by a northbound MARC train in the area of the Gaithersburg train station located on South Summit Avenue.

MARC tells FOX 5 Train 873 left Union Station and was carrying passengers on the way to Martinsburg, W.Va . There were no injuries to any passengers.

Police say no foul play is suspected, but the death is still under investigation.

Detectives are working to identify the victim.

Pedestrian accidents involving trains in this area has happened numerous times in the past five years and it has left the mayor of Gaithersburg frustrated.

"We've looked at safety issues, safety precautions for the [train] station before in the wake of other incidents, and we have worked with the [Maryland Transportation Authority] to implement some changes at the station," said Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman.

Service on the Brunswick Line was disrupted Monday afternoon.
