Man shot and killed in altercation with armed guard at Silver Spring 7-Eleven

A 27-year-old Prince George's County man has died, officials say, after being shot during an altercation with an armed security guard at a Montgomery County 7-Eleven early Sunday morning.

Officials say 27-year-old Deon Christopher McDonald, from Hyattsville, was found unresponsive outside a 7-Eleven at 8202 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring just before 4 a.m. Sunday.

Officers tried to resuscitate McDonald but weren't successful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say McDonald was inside the store making a purchase when he got into a dispute with the store clerk. Police say an armed, on-duty security guard, employed by a company contracted by the store's property manager, intervened.

Montgomery County police say the dispute between McDonald and the security guard became physical and continued to the outside of the store. Police say it was outside the store that the 44-year-old security guard discharged his weapon and struck McDonald.

Montgomery County police say their investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information that could aid detectives in their investigation is urged to call (240) 773-5070.
