Man punches bear to save dog

A California man risked his own life to save man's best friend.

Carl Moore stood up to a bear by punching it in the face Thursday after it looked like it was going to attack his dog.

The bear, he says, tried to straddle the gate leading into his Meadow Visto home. This caused his dog to yelp in terror and caused Moore to rush to his aid.

"The man or beast that I run from ain't been born, and his momma's already dead," said Moore.

"I ain't run from nothing; I never have in my whole life and I ain't going to start now. And you're not going to sacrifice my babies for some damn bear."

Moore said he raised both hands and cursed at the bear before he punched it.

"He come up like this, and turned, boom, I hit him hard. Tyler said I damn corkscrewed his head."

A friend says Moore was in the Marines. Fish and wildlife rangers believe the bear was after chickens on Moore's property.
