Lyon sisters suspect charged with rape of Va. girl

The man charged in the 1975 slayings of two sisters who vanished from a suburban Maryland mall now faces new charges in connection with an unrelated case in Northern Virginia.

A Manassas grand jury indicted Lloyd Lee Welch on charges of rape, sexual battery and taking indecent liberties.

Meanwhile, Welch is still awaiting trial on murder charges in the disappearance of Sheila Lyon and Katharine Lyon. The sisters were walking from their house to the Wheaton Plaza Mall. They never came home. No bodies were found.

Authorities say Welch was at the mall the day the girls vanished and was seen paying attention to them.
