Loaded gun found in teacher's restroom at Sonia Sotomayor Middle School

Police are working to determine who brought a gun to Sonia Sotomayor Middle School at Adelphi.

According to police, around 10:20 a.m. they were made aware that a loaded gun was discovered in a teachers’ lounge restroom in the school. It is unclear who brought the gun and how long it had been in the restroom.

Sonia Sotomayor principal released a letter to families about the incident, detailing that students were not in the area of the building where the weapon was found. Principal Dr. Leroy Alicea-Cabassa also stated creating a safe learning environment for students and staff is their top priority.
