Lightning strike causes Greenbelt apartment fire; storm causes damage across region

Dozens are homeless after a fire caused by a lightning strike at an apartment building in Greenbelt.

The fire forced a few dozen families to find somewhere else to Tuesday night.

The fire happened at a garden style complex on lakeside drive.

22 units were affected. Officials say no one was hurt.

There is no word on when those residents can get back in to their homes.

Heavy rains and fierce winds knocked down a slew of power lines and trees Tuesday.

One tree came crashing down on a home in Germantown. Reports of similar scenarios were reported across our region.

Thousands of customers were without power, however, many are back online.
