Killer whales spotted off the coast of Virginia Beach

A fisherman spotted a pair of majestic orcas off the coast of Virginia Beach and it was truly beautiful.

While out fishing for sea bass Bill Pappas, Jr., captain of Playin' Hookey Charters, spotted two killer whales. He uploaded photos and videos to Facebook which quickly went viral.

"We sailed parallel to him for a mile or so, then we eased ahead and slowed down to see nature's beauty in person." Bill wrote, "After saying hello we headed back and saw another male headed east. Truly one of the coolest things I've ever witnessed on the water."

According to Alexander Costidis, Ph.D., Stranding Response Program Coordinator with the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, he told WTKR, "While not commonplace, orca are not strangers to the mid-Atlantic and southern US coast or the Gulf of Mexico and all of those waters are considered part of their primary range."
