Investigation after thief breaks into personal vehicles while firefighters are on emergency calls

A brazen thief has been breaking into personal vehicles that belong to firefighters and EMT workers while they are out on emergency calls.

The incidents have occurred for several months at the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Station in Montgomery County.

Michael Scanlon, a Burtonsville volunteer firefighter, said there have been at least eight occurrences since April. All of them, he said, have happened during or just after crews were out on calls.

Valuables such as a purse, a laptop, cellphones and even spare change have been stolen.

Emergency workers installed a bait car with a hidden camera inside and were able to capture an image of the suspected thief.
