‘Ghost Bike' ceremony honors cyclist killed in stolen van crash

Family and friends held a "Ghost Bike" ceremony in honor of cyclist Dave Salovesh on Sunday.

Salovesh was struck and killed by a driver who allegedly stole a van and then fled police.

The ceremony was held at the intersection of 12th Street and Florida Avenue in Northeast.

Salovesh was well known in D.C.'s cycling community, and had written to city leaders about the need for protective bike lanes.

The driver who struck him was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, along with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
