Frederick man accused of infecting women with HIV indicted for 3 additional victims

A Frederick man who allegedly knowingly transmitted HIV to multiple women he met on dating apps is facing new charges after investigators identified three additional victims.

Rudolph Jericho Smith was indicted for:

- Three counts of first-degree assault
- Three counts of knowingly attempting to transmit HIV

The charges were filed when three victims came forward following Smith's initial arrest on April 5.

Frederick Police began investigating Smith in the summer of 2017 when multiple women told them they thought Smith had infected them with HIV.

They say "considerable time was spent" trying to determine whether Smith was HIV positive, and whether he was aware.

Police were eventually able to confirm that Smith was HIV positive when they executed a search warrant for his blood.

After they talked to Smith, police learned that Smith continued to meet women on dating sites, and that he was still having unprotected sex with them without disclosing that he was HIV positive.

The State's Attorney is still asking for any additional victims to come forward.
