FOX 5 DC photojournalist wins Nat Geo photo contest with stunning photo of Iceland farmhouse
WASHINGTON - A long-time member of the FOX 5 DC family received a very special honor this week! Photojournalist Mike Horan won runner-up in an Earth Month photography contest put on by 21st Century Fox and National Geographic.
The "Earth in Focus" photo contest invited employees throughout 21st Century Fox to submit their best nature photography and shots of action against climate change. Horan submitted a photo he took in Iceland (see it above), and on Friday, it was announced that he came in second place!
Here's the description he submitted along with his entry:
"This shot is from the rugged eastern coast of Iceland along the ring road south of Höfn. This is a starkly beautiful area, desolate in places and somewhat forbidding in it's solitude in the middle of January. You can drive along the ice covered road here for miles with only the mountains and snow and sky.
So when I came upon this farmhouse, it looked so fragile with the mountains looming above I was drawn to it. It shows the precarious nature of living here, where the difference in scale reminds you how small we are in the world. But it also speaks to the strength and fortitude of the people who reside here. Many of these farms have been in the same family for a thousand years."
Huge congratulations to you, Mike! You make us proud.
