Fast-moving storms down trees, cause damage throughout DC region

Severe weather brought heavy rain, strong lightning and damaging winds to the metropolitan D.C. area Thursday. The power was also knocked out throughout Northern Virginia.

Several areas were impacted by tornado warnings, including D.C., Howard, Prince George's and Arlington counties.

FOX 5 crews and viewers reported damage throughout much of the area.

Trees and powerlines reportedly came down on roads, cars and homes in the District, Bethesda, Columbia, Gaithersburg, Fulton, Arlington, Falls Church, Manassas and Chantilly -- even on the National Mall.
