Fairfax schools employee charged with embezzling money for student lunches

A Fairfax County schools employee has been charged with embezzling a large sum of money intended for student lunches at an elementary school, Fairfax County Police said.

Fadwa Sarsaur, 51, of Alexandria, is facing three counts of embezzlement for allegedly taking the money from several different lunch accounts over a three-year period at Bailey's Elementary School in Falls Church, police said. Police said thousands of dollars was taken, but

Police were notified about the allegation from the FCPS Internal Investigations Section after a member of management in food services discovered discrepancies in accounting records that showed several student meal accounts were being debited on days school was not in session.

Police said students were not affected by the theft and they still received their meals.

Sarsaur turned herself into the Fairfax County jail on Friday. Fairfax County Public Schools has suspended Sarsaur without pay.
