Fairfax County police officer arrested for child porn, released on bond

Officer William "Bud" Walker has resigned from the Fairfax County Police Department after being arrested Wednesday at police headquarters and charged with two counts of child pornography possession.

After a court appearance Friday, Walker was released on bond. His next court appearance is June 17.

"This matter is disappointing to all of us, including all of the members of the Fairfax County Police Department who put their lives on the line each and every shift," said Police Chief Ed Roessler.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip from a blogging and social media site that child pornography was uploaded onto its servers from a Fairfax County home that was owned by Walker.

Walker was a police spokesperson who had worked for the department for 15 years.

"We determined with the chief that we needed to place charges now, and in a case generally like this, we want to make sure that the public and our kids are safe," said Lt. James Bacon of the Child Exploitation Unit for Fairfax County police.

Walker was hired by the department in 1999. He worked most recently in the Public Information Office representing the department before the media.

Prior to that, he worked in a patrol capacity and also held a position as a school resource officer at South County High School in Lorton from 2006 to 2009.

"All of this information is communicated to our school community in case there are any potential victims we are unaware of," said Chief Roessler.

Police would not say whether they believe Walker created the videos himself citing the ongoing investigation.

According to the chief, the investigation has not found that Walker committed any crimes against children in the area. But detectives are asking anyone with information to come forward. They have set up a hotline at 703-246-7896.
