EXCLUSIVE: Attack on 2 children in DC apartment believed to be retaliation for shooting arrest

WASHINGTON - A D.C. community is trying to understand why someone would attack two innocent children in their own home. Police think it was an act of retaliation and all stems from a shooting of a 7-year-old girl earlier this month.

The situation in Ward 8 over the last few days has taken an increasingly violent tone as there have been a series of shootings and retaliatory events in this Southeast D.C. neighborhood.

On Monday, three people were injured in two separate shootings - one happening on Knox place and a second on 16th Street.

Back on April 8, a 7-year-old was hospitalized after she was shot on Knox Place just around the corner from the Seventh District police station. The girl was walking home from dinner on Hartford Street along with her parents.

Police arrested 27-year-old Michael Wiggins in connection with the shooting. But on Tuesday, a police source confirmed to FOX 5 that there is a warrant out for the arrest of Wiggins' sister.

According to a report obtained by FOX 5, four days after the 7-year-old was shot, Wiggins' sister broke into an unknown woman's apartment along with her cousin. The victim was attacked by one woman as a second suspect dragged the victim's 11-year-old son out of his room beating him while she reportedly accused him of snitching to police and outing her brother as the alleged gunman in connection to the shooting of the 7-year-old girl.

The report also said the victim's 2-year-old son woke up from the commotion and was punched in the face four to five times by these women seeking retaliation. To make matters worse, police sources said the 11-year-old boy did not provide them with any information and had nothing to do with the arrest made in the April 8th shooting of the 7-year-old girl.

On Tuesday morning, police arrested one of the women in the apartment incident and they are still looking for the second suspect.
