Dozens displaced after 2-alarm fire damages Suitland apartment building

A two-alarm fire badly damaged a Prince George's County apartment complex leaving more that thirty people without homes less than a week before Christmas.

The fire was reported around 7 a.m. at the Carriage Hills Apartments in the 3300 block of Curtis Drive in Suitland. Firefighters were evacuated while fighting the blaze but were able to keep the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings in the complex.

Five residents were treated for smoke inhalation on the scene and two were transported to local hospitals. A firefighter who was injured was able to return to duty without being hospitalized. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Fire officials say 19 adults and 11 children were displaced after the fire badly damaged at least 11 of the building's units.
