Demand-based pricing for parking in Chinatown and Penn Quarter neighborhoods begins
WASHINGTON - Drivers in the Chinatown and Penn Quarter neighborhoods will now begin to see the price of parking fluctuating.
The area is part of a pilot project, which began on Monday. and will study demand-based pricing. Parking meter rates for blocks with high demand will increase while rates for blocks with low demand will decrease.
Depending on where a person parks and when, the price of parking will either stay the same at $2.30 per hour, decrease to $2 per hour or increase to $2.75 per hour. Like the cost of riding on Metro, rates during peak demand periods will be higher than off-peak periods.
The study area includes on-street parking spaces bounded by H Street NW, 3rd Street NW, E Street NW and 11th Street NW.
Blue: No price change ($2.30/hour); Green: Price decrease ($2.00/hour); Yellow: Price increase ($2.75/hour)
Details of the plan are available at: parkdc.dc.gov.
