DC plans to improve traffic signal timing

DDOT has a plan to keep you moving through intersections on your commute.

Starting today, DDOT will implement new traffic signal timing plans for nearly 650 intersections in the greater downtown DC area.

Officials say the project will improve traffic flow, optimize pedestrian crossing times and reduce transit running times. For drivers, that's expected to reduce travel times and fuel consumption.

The initiative will take place in various downtown areas. The project area boundaries are as follows:

A few intersections in Georgetown along M Street and Wisconsin Avenue, Northwest, are also part of the effort.

The project will continue through the month of May.
