Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser issued an executive order on Tuesday banning travel to the state on official city business. The order will remain in effect until the law is repealed, clarified or blocked.
Republican Indiana Gov. Mike Pence said Tuesday that he wants legislation by the end of the week to clarify that the law doesn't allow discrimination against gays and lesbians. Pence says the bill protects religious liberty.
Businesses and other groups have canceled events in Indiana in response to the law, and the governor of Washington state has also imposed a travel ban for state employees.
