DC man sentenced 50 years for murder of Montgomery County man during home invasion robbery

ROCKVILLE, Md. - A D.C. man found guilty for a home invasion robbery and murder in Montgomery County has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.

Furl Williams was convicted in July and is still facing a second murder charge in Prince George's County.

There was a lot of emotion in the courtroom when friends and relatives of the victim, Amaru Johnson, were given the opportunity to speak. Many of them looked right at Williams and asked him why he had done this. Even one person said that she had forgiven him.

However, when Williams had the chance to say something in court, he said nothing.

"No one wins here," said Johnson's aunt. "No one wins and at the end of the day, I forgive this child because he lost his life and I lost my son. So I can't get him back and he's off the streets and he can't hurt no one else. So I think we are happy with that.

"This child is nothing more than a demon. That's all he is. He had no remorse for what it is that he did and he showed he had no remorse. For that, he got exactly what he deserved."

Body camera footage from April 29, 2017 shows Montgomery County police officers arriving to a home in the 12500 block of Kitchen House Way in Germantown.

According to prosecutors, Williams and another suspect, Eric Lee, who has already pleaded guilty in this case, first robbed two people outside of the house. But someone recognized Lee and sent him a message on Snapchat telling him to return to the house with the stolen items.

Williams and Lee came back to the Germantown neighborhood - with Williams pulling out a gun and shooting his way into the house.

Johnson, who was only 19 years old, was inside the home. According to the prosecutor, he acted like a hero and told a woman he was trying to protect to run.

Williams then shot Johnson once in the chest. Several others were wounded by gunfire, but survived.

Evidence shows when Williams entered the house, he was shouting, 'Where's the marijuana?"
