Crash leaves 3 Maryland kids without parents

Three children are left without their parents after a young couple was killed in a car crash within walking distance of their Clinton home.

Sunday afternoon, Delonte Tobe, 34, and his wife, Shalaya, 31, were hosting friends when they stepped out and never returned. The couple was struck by a car as they made a right turn out of their development. They likely never saw it coming.

"When they started talking about what kind of car they were driving, I mean my heart just went out to them. And I was worried whether the kids were in there, but I found out that they weren't. So, my heart goes out to them because three kids without parents," said neighbor Laverne Johnson.

Married two years ago, the couple leaves behind a 10-year-old boy, a 9-year-old girl and a 2-year-old son.

Shemeka Drummond has known Delonte Tobe since childhood.

"It's sad. He was a good person," said Drummond. "It's heartbreaking to see such young people die in that kind of way."

Residents said the intersection at Kirby Road and Tinkers Creek Drive is a problem area for speeding. The Prince George's County Police Department is still investigating what caused the crash. The driver of the second car suffered minor injuries and has not been charged.
