Cooler temps, evening showers after record-setting warmth on Tuesday

WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - The warm air on Tuesday set a new record high in the D.C. region but a cold front moving our way has brought the temperatures down and also brings the possibility of showers later this evening.

FOX 5's Mike Thomas says Tuesday's high of 74 degrees at Reagan National broke the previous high mark of 70 degrees which was set in 1991 and, prior to that, in 1890. The warmth that blanketed the area was about 30 degrees above normal for this time of year.

Thomas says showers will develop in the late-afternoon and early-evening Wednesday as a cold front approaches. Temperatures will still be warmer than usual with highs in the 50s.

Mild temperatures return on Thursday and Friday, Thomas says. A changing weather pattern will bring more seasonable temperatures in the 30s and 40s to our area over the weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday should remain dry.

After the weekend, Thomas say he's keeping an eye on a tricky weather system that could bring rain or snow to our region by Monday and Tuesday.
