Congresswoman proposes resolution declaring August 22 ‘Chuck Brown Day'

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton introduced a congressional resolution designating Chuck Brown's birthday, August 22, as "Chuck Brown Day."

"Chuck Brown gave D.C. a unique hometown sound that was distinctly our own, and brought enjoyment to all who heard him here and throughout the nation," Norton said.

A self-taught musician, Chuck Brown is considered to be the founder of the go-go music genre, combining funk, soul, and Latin party sounds.

He passed away on May 16, 2012 at the age of 75 but spent most of his life in D.C.

The day commemorating the Godfather of Go-Go would be celebrated throughout the entire country.
