Cold temps, strong wind gusts expected Thursday after rain moves out

Cold temperatures and strong winds are expected Thursday after a steady rain that is making for a very soggy early morning commute around the D.C. area moves later in the afternoon.

The wet weather moved into the region Wednesday and continued through the overnight hours bringing mild air to the region after days of bitter cold temperatures. FOX 5's Mike Thomas says the rain should stop by the early afternoon. A Flood Watch remains in place until 11 a.m.

As the precipitation moves out so will the warm weather that reached the 60 degree mark in some parts of the region Thursday morning. Afternoon temperatures will fall considerably down into the 30s, Thomas says. He says winds with gusts between 40 to 50 mph are possible later Thursday.

Looking ahead, winter temperatures return Friday with even a passing snow flurry possible. Temperatures are expected to be in the 40s for the weekend but you can expect dry skies with no rain in sight until Tuesday where we're keeping an eye on possible winter precipitation.
