Chef Jose Andres announced as Oscar presenter during Academy Awards

Chef Jose Andres has been announced as an Oscar presenter during this weekend's Academy Awards ceremony.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Wednesday that Andres will be present one of the Best Picture nominees along with 10 others, including Serena Williams, Queen Latifah, Trevor Noah, Barbara Streisand, Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Amandla Stenberg, Tom Morello, Diego Luna and Congressman John Lewis.

"We are thrilled to assemble this well-known array of film lovers to introduce and share their reflections on the Best Picture-nominated movies," Oscars producer Donna Gigliotti and co-producer and director Glenn Weiss said in a joint statement.

The D.C. restaurateur has become known for his food philanthropy, most recently bringing food to those impacted by the government shutdown in the District and Hurricane Maria in his native home of Puerto Rico.

Andres was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize earlier this year by Maryland Congressman John Delaney for work he did in Puerto Rico.

The chef owns several restaurants in the D.C. area, including America Eat Tavern, Barmini, Beefsteak, China Chilcano, Minibar, Oyamel and Jaleo.
