Carjacking caught on camera, foiled by Good Samaritan

A woman was minding her own business filling up her tank, and she had no clue someone was going to try to steal her car.

It happened in broad daylight at an Allen Park BP station and it was all caught on camera. Now police are looking for the guy.

The suspect crept into the woman's car at 1:15 p.m. and drove off with her inside at the station on Southfield and Roosevelt at 1:15 a.m. Thursday.

"A customer came running in and telling us a car just got stolen," said Ali Noureddine, the BP assistant manager. "So we go outside and see the pump detached from the nozzle."

He had just got into work when the carjacking happened. The woman tried to fight the man off inside the car and the suspect hit a fuel truck in the parking lot.

"I assume that's what the fuel guy was worried about," said Noureddine. "He probably saw them fighting in the car and he thought something wasn't right about it.

"You see the guy delivering the fuel; he was tackling the person who sold the car."

Police say the woman is okay and the suspect was not armed. That fuel deliveryman kept him from stealing the car but the suspect still got away.

He fled on foot but left behind a Detroit Tigers baseball cap and a couple of sweatshirts.

FOX 2 showed the video the drivers filling up at that gas station and they were floored.

Police describe the suspect as a white man with dark hair; he looks to be in his mid-20s or early 30s. He was wearing blue jeans, a light gray shirt and white gym shoes.

If you recognize the man in that video call Allen Park police at (313) 386-7800.
