Car drives over couch cushion, bursts into flames on I-270 in Montgomery County
ROCKVILLE, Md. (FOX 5) - Montgomery County fire officials say a car caught fire on I-270 Saturday morning, when it ran over a couch cushion in the middle of the road.
Pete Piringer with Montgomery County fired says the Infinity sedan was driving northbound at Redland Boulevard in Rockville when the car ran over the cushion, which became lodged underneath the car.
Investigators say the heat from the catalytic converter ignited the cushion, starting a fire underneath the vehicle. They say the driver was able to get off the road and get out of his car safely before it was completely engulfed in flames.
The driver is safe and unharmed.
