Capital Bikeshare removing electric bikes after brake complaints

Capital Bikeshare is replacing the DMV's electric bikes with pedal-operated bikes after complaints from riders that the brake force on the front wheel is "stronger than expected."

They will be replaced with pedal-operated bikes.

The company operates bikes in six jurisdictions, including D.C., Arlington, Alexandria, Montgomery County, Prince George's County, and Fairfax County.

According to the company, they have only received a small number of reports about the brakes, and they are being removed "out of an abundance of caution."

The company did not say when the electric bikes would return, if at all.

Since Capital Bikeshare first deployed electric bikes last year, riders have taken thousands of rides and shared with us incredibly helpful and overwhelmingly positive feedback.
