Barricade situation in Fairfax County ends peacefully, suspect surrenders to police

HERNDON, Va. - Police say a barricade situation has ended peacefully after hours of communications, investigators were able to get a suspect into custody.

Police say 21-year-old Anthony Moaf surrendered to police after a 10-hour standoff. Police used a police rebot and tear gas grenades.

Fairfax County police say it happened at 4 a.m. at the 13200 block of Ladybank Lane in Herndon as officers received calls for a report of an armed man threatening to kill family members.

Investigators say they have made contact with the man involved, who fired shots at around 6 a.m.

Moaf reportedly threatened to shoot police, but did not do so. Police asked the public to avoid the area for their safety.

A neighbor tells FOX 5 that gunshots were fired at around 11 a.m. and then again at 12:30 p.m.

Police say the other family members in the home have been evacuated.

Investigators said on social media at around 2:15 p.m. that the barricade was over after the suspect surrendered. They say there were no injuries.

Following his surrender, Moaf was taken for a medical evaluation. Police said he faces charges of reckless handling of a firearm.
