Baltimore police shoot armed youth in leg
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore police say an officer shot an armed youth in the leg after hearing gunfire while investigating a robbery and nonfatal shooting nearby.
Spokesman T.J. Smith says the four-year department veteran fired at least once at the 17-year-old suspect Wednesday evening in southwest Baltimore. Smith says the boy's injures are not life-threatening.
Detective Donny Moses says police were called shortly after 6 p.m. to investigate the shooting of a soft-drink delivery man. He says officers were investigating that incident when they responded to gunfire a couple blocks away.
Moses says officers chased two male subjects, both armed. One dropped his gun and got away.
Moses says the juvenile was shot after refusing to drop his gun. He was taken to a local hospital.
