Baby girl who couldn't wait born on Beltway in northern Va.

FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) -- A baby was born overnight on the Capital Beltway in northern Virginia.

Fairfax County Fire Medic Kyle Ballinger tells WTOP-FM (http://bit.ly/1ykpBrg ) that he got the call about a woman about to give birth on the outer loop of the Beltway early Friday morning.

Ballinger says the woman had been headed to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church to deliver her baby but didn't make it. He says he and other emergency responders helped deliver a healthy baby girl on the side of the highway around 3 a.m.

The fire department says the mother, whose name was not released, and her new baby daughter are doing well.

Ballinger says he had never delivered a baby before, saying the experience was rewarding and the reason he decided to become a medic.
