Arlington rape suspect targeted victim with online ad, police say

A suspect targeted a woman in Arlington through an online ad and raped her, according to police.

The Arlington County Police Department said the suspect and woman made contact through a classified job posted online. The man came to the woman's apartment in the 5500 block of Columbia Pike on Monday to perform the service, but instead attacked and raped her, authorities said.

Officials would not disclose what type of service was arranged, but said it was not sexual in nature.

The suspect was captured on camera entering and leaving the apartment, according to detectives.

Officials described the suspect as a man in his 60s, between 5-feet-10-inches and 6-feet tall with a medium build. Authorities said he has brown eyes and dark short curly hair with some gray. He was last seen wearing a bright blue shirt with a tan collar, khaki pants, tan shoes and carrying an umbrella, according to police.

Detectives said their preliminary investigation leads them to believe this was a targeted attack.

Anyone with information that could aid detectives in their investigation was urged to contact Det. P. Pena of the Arlington County Police Department's Special Victims' Unit at (703) 228-4183.
