Arlington County police investigating 40-year-old man's death as first homicide of the year

WASHINGTON - Arlington police said their first homicide victim of the year is a 40-year-old man who they said was found dead in his home on March 16.

Investigators said John Giandoni of Arlington was found dead at his home in the 4100 block of 11th Place N.

Crime scene tape and a boarded-up front window remained as detectives continue to investigate the homicide. Ashley Savage with Arlington County police said no arrests have been made in Giandoni's death.

According to officials, there was no forced entry into the home and the broken window was busted out when his family went to check on Giandoni.

Giandoni's family established a YouCaring fundraiser page to help cover costs following his death.

On the YouCaring page, Giandoni's family says he was a father to a young son and worked at Booz Allen Hamilton as a Data Analyst.

"He just seemed like he was all about his young son," neighbor Laura Bandini told FOX 5. "I just feel like it's such a loss for that family and I'm not really sure why he was killed or why he might have been targeted."

The family said Giandoni graduated from Woodbridge Senior High School, received his Bachelor's degree from James Madison University and later his graduate degree from Virginia Tech.

According to the family, funeral services were held for Giandoni on Saturday at Saint Elizabeth Anne Seton in Lake Ridge, Virginia.

Authorities said there was no threat to the public even though an arrest has not been made or a suspect description released in connection with Giandoni's death.

"Police have told us that there's no threat to the community but I'm not sure how we know that for certain because someone was murdered a few doors down," Bandini said. "We don't know the cause of death, the motive of death. We don't know if there is somebody who's a murderer and running around in our community. This is a safe, nice place and we're just very concerned."

Arlington County police have requested the medical examiner not release Giandoni's cause of death, citing its ongoing investigation.
