The cold isn't the only thing we'll have to think about this week. A little winter action is in the forecast for Friday morning when a mix of rain and snow could make its way to the D.C. region.

FOX 5's Tucker Barnes is keeping an eye on the possible winter weather scenario and says the wintry mix could move in to areas north and west of D.C. after sunrise Friday. Areas along the Interstate 81 corridor could see some snow around 9 a.m. or 10 a.m. A mixed mess with some possible light accumulations is possible beginning around 12 p.m. closer to the D.C. metro area. The system looks to finish as rain into the evening.

The cold air gripping our area will be about 20 degrees lower than normal on Wednesday, Barnes says. And it's not just us! Other parts of the mid-Atlantic and upper Mid-West are experiencing some of the coldest temperatures ever for their areas in March.

The cold air will continue until the end of the week. Once the weekend arrives, we'll transition to a warmer pattern with highs in the 50s on Saturday and in the 60s on Sunday. We could see some wet weather on Sunday as well.

Don't forget -- Daylight Saving Time beings on Sunday, March 10 at 2 a.m. when clocks are turned forward one hour to 3 a.m.
