Alleged drug smugglers toss over a dozen bales of marijuana from car in wild police chase

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. - Authorities say two men allegedly tossed bales of marijuana from their vehicle during a high speed police pursuit down an Arizona highway.

The incident happened Wednesday in Casa Grande around 11:45 a.m.

A Pinal County Sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a speeding vehicle when the chase began.

Police say the suspect vehicle reached speed of over 100 mph. They say the suspects, 43-year-old Mario Perez-Paz of Mexico and 21-year-old Juan Aguilar-Zavala, threw over a dozen bales of marijuana from the vehicle as they raced down Interstate 10.

Spike strips were used to stop the vehicle. The men led officers on a short foot pursuit before being detained. They faces several charges including conspiracy to transport marijuana.

Several vehicles not involved in the chase recovered some of the bales. In total approximately 374 pounds of marijuana was recovered.
