Alexandria man wins $5 million prize on Virginia Lottery scratch ticket

An Alexandria man who tried his luck at this week's $750 million Powerball jackpot walked away with $5 million after he bought a single scratch ticket with extra cash.

Kifle Solomon went to the Safeway at 5980 Kingstowne in Alexandria with his eyes set on the big Powerball jackpot on March 27.

After buying a few Powerball tickets, he purchased one 50X The Money scratch ticket with leftover cash, according to a press release from the Virginia Lottery.

Although Solomon didn't end up winning the Powerball, he did win the top prize on the scratch-off -- $5 million!

"I couldn't believe my eyes," Solomon told Virginia Lottery officials.
