Abandoned Mastiff begins road to recovery

Violet, a severely malnourished Mastiff abandoned on the side of the road in early February, has begun her long road to recovery.

She was found on the side of Gallahan Road weighing just under 57 pounds, well under her breed's average weight of 140 to 150 pounds.

But her story now has a happier trajectory. Violent has been put in foster care through Mutts Matter Rescue, a Rockville organization that helps animals in DC, Maryland and Virginia, and is beginning to recover.

To update her many fans, a Facebook page called "Saving Violet" has been created. The page provides information on her progress, and shares photos and videos documenting her recovery.

According to the page, Violet is slowly gaining weight and re-learning how to do simple tasks, like walking up the stairs and exploring her foster home.

Applications to adopt Violet are currently being accepted, but an official date she will be available has not been set. In the meantime, Mutts Matter Rescue has requested food donations.

Parties interested in donating food or medical supplements should call Doggie Delights at 703-753-5255. Financial donations for Violet's medical care can be made through Mutts Matter Rescue.
