8-year-old boy struck by car in Southeast DC
WASHINGTON - An 8-year-old boy is in critical condition after being struck by a car in Southeast D.C. Thursday evening.
D.C. police say they received a call about the collision at 30th Street and Southern Avenue at around 6:53 p.m. The driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene.
An accident reconstruction team was called to the scene to investigate the incident.
A neighbor told FOX 5 the child was dragged after being hit.
Residents say speeding has been an issue for this narrow one-way street. However, police have not said if speed may have been a factor.
Traffic was shut down on Southern Avenue from 30th Street to Naylor Road, but was reopened just after 8:30 p.m.
