4 CSX train cars fall into Susquehanna River during windstorm

CSX officials are investigating after four train cars fell into the Susquehanna River during a powerful windstorm Friday evening.

According to CSX, six train cars derailed while riding over the Susquehanna River rail trestle in Perryville, Maryland in Cecil County, just after 8 p.m.

Investigators say there were no reported injuries and no hazardous materials were involved.

High winds affected train and roadways Friday into Saturday, with Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announcing a State of Emergency for the strong winds.

The Maryland Transportation Authority said Saturday the Tydings Bridge on I-95 remains under full restrictions, while the Key (I-695), Bay (US 50/301) and Hatem (US 40) bridges are under wind warnings.

CSX says it is working closely with federal, state and local public safety officials to remove the rail cars from the river.

CSX says crews safely removed two rail cars out of the river Saturday morning and are working to remove the remaining two.

"The safety of the community and everyone on site is our top priority," said CSX in a statement.

"CSX appreciates the patience of our neighbors in Perryville as we work as quickly as possible to fully remove the rail cars from this area."
