3 Prince George's County cops remain suspended after party shooting
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. - Three Prince George's County police officers remain suspended, while eight have been released, after an accidental shooting at one of a Brandywine home during a holiday party.
Police are still investigating the incident, in which 11 officers were suspended after an incident which they describe as unintentional.
According to police, sometime around 9:43 on Dec. 15, an officer was handling a gun when it discharged.
They say the officer suffered a wound to his hand. Another officer in the same room was grazed by a bullet to the leg when the same bullet ricocheted.
The Prince George's County Internal Affairs Division is still investigating the incident.
At this point, they say they believe that the incident was an accident.
Prince George's County Police Chief Hank Stawinski stated that he is displeased with the incident, noting, "I am committed to transparency and accountability. As a result, I am informing our community of what we know at this point in the investigation. I expect the women and men of this institution to serve as examples to others. I was relieved when it was confirmed that neither of the officer's injuries was serious."
During the course of the investigation, four of the officers who were initially suspended were brought back on to the force.
Four more resumed active duty on Friday.
