3-alarm fire at apartment building in Marlow Heights

MARLOW HEIGHTS, Md. - Prince George's County firefighters have put out a three-alarm fire at an apartment building in Marlow Heights.

Fire officials say they received a call about the blaze at the three-story building at around 6:23 p.m. Wednesday in the 4800 block of St. Barnabas Road. The first firefighters were on the scene 5 minutes later.

Dozens of fire trucks and engines from Prince George's, Anne Arundel, Charles Counties in Maryland along with Fairfax County and the city of Alexandria in Virginia came to help extinguish the fire that was visible across the Potomac River in the commonwealth.

FOX 5's Marina Marraco reports that despite a roof collapse, everyone was able to get out safely.

"We believe there were people jumping from balconies, but we have not found any injuries," said Prince George's County Fire and EMS Chief Marc Bashoor. "We have met with building management. They have identified all of the occupants."

Fire officials say 29 adults and seven children have been displaced from 11 apartment units. The Red Cross is assisting these residents.
